Overview

An introduction to Carnatic Music with beginner lessons. This course consists of the below beginner lessons.

  1. Sarali Varisaigal - to learn the swarasthanams, tone of every note, sequence of primary notes in different Sruthi suiting men, women and kids. To also know how to take the lesson forward to replce the Mayamalavagowlai ragam with other Ragams like Kalyani, Shankarabharanam etc, to practice notations without lyrics adopting different styles like Akaaram, Makaaram, Thathakaram, Ukaaram, Ekaaram. Students will also learn to sing the above in four speeds of thalam. 
  2. Janta Varisaigal - to learn the application of double notes, the pattern of sounding modulated one soft note with another stressed note giving a modulated feel
  3. Dhattu Varisaigal - to move out of the comfort zone of singing the sequence of notes and learn the jumbled notes and practice to maintain the note positions irrespective of how lengthy the pattern or how shifting the notes are. 
  4. Melsthayi Varisaigal - to learn to scale up voice limits and reach higher octave notes and still learn to come back to the lower notes.
  5. Keezhsthayi Varisaigal - to learn to scale down voice limits and reach lower octave notes and practice base voice to gain more volume and depth as we keep raising voice. 
  6. Alankarams - to start understanding Rhythm pattern and know the importance and difference between Thalam and Jathi. The lesson will cover 7 thalams and 5 jathis.

Rhythm Pattern

Learn to sing in thalams and jathis. Understand the increasing speeds. First speed with one note, second speed with two notes, third speed with four notes
